ORDERING, COLLECTION & SPECIMEN HANDLING

Ordering
Who Can Submit Test Orders?

Orders can be submitted by hospitals, private labs and clinics providing patient care, and are responsible for collecting the necessary specimens from patients. 
Please note: Only patients of Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton may use the hospital specimen collection centers for sample collection.

Supplies and Materials

LRC Services does not supply collection materials. Clients are responsible for supplying their own materials (eg. tubes, cups) for sample collection.

Please inquire further regarding Saliva Cortisol material.

How to Ship us a Sample

Once approved, you may begin sending samples to LRC. Each test has specific collection and handling instructions in the LTIG.

Please note – clients are responsible for their own courier service (ie. FedEx, Purolator), which are familiar with the designated drop-off location. 

Important: all specimen should be sent to the above shipping address. Upon arrival, samples are registered, batched and forwarded to the appropriate testing area.

Becoming a Submitter

If you’re a new client, please include this information to become a submitter:

Patient:

  • Full name

  • Address

  • Date of birth

  • OHIP*

  • Gender

  • Collection date

  • List of tests

Organization:

  • Name

  • address

  • Ordering physician

  • verified fax for results

*An OHIP number is not required unless you are submitting a sample for genetic testing. As a non-participating/non-MRN client, OLIS reporting does not apply and no patient account will be created.

Submitting a Requisition

To submit a sample for testing, a fully completed laboratory requisition must be included.

​You may use the HRLMP Requisition Form or, if unavailable, a Ministry of Health requisition form.

For detailed collection and handling instruction, please refer to LTIG under each specific test. This includes:

  • Turnaround times

Where Do I Get My Blood Drawn? 

LRC Services does not provide blood draw services. Please visit a local blood collection site to have your sample collected based on your test requirements.

How are Results Delivered?

Verified results are sent out via auto fax every hour.

Understanding your Results

LRC does not interpret results to patients under any circumstances.

Please contact your ordering provider to interpret any results. If your care team has any questions or concerns regarding the testing please have them contact LRC Client Support to direct their inquiry to the appropriate staff member.

Invoicing

Invoices are issued monthly. The invoices will be sent via email by the LRC Client Support Team and will include all necessary details for submitting payment electronically.

How Do I Get a Copy of My Results?

LRC does not issue results to patients under any circumstances. Please contact your ordering provider or if ordered through:

If you are the submitter – Please email us at LRCClientSupport@hhsc.ca or via Telephone: 905-577-1477

and provide patient full name, health card number, date of birth, test name, collection time & date. Confirm fax number to re-issue the result to.

 

If you are not the submitter - Please contact the submitter directly to obtain results or have the submitter contact us directly to re-issue the result.

Payment Method

Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) – Specific instructions will be on invoice. For EFT setup assistance, please contact the LRC Support team. Responses are typically provided within 24–48 business hours.
